Elham Gardening Society

Welcome from the Chairman

It’s a privilege to be the Chairman of the Elham Gardening Society.

We are a very active society and welcome anyone wishing to join us. Our meetings take place on the third Thursday of each month in St Mary’s Church Hall at 7.30pm;, you won’t feel out of place and you can join there. Included on this website is our programme.

None of us feel we are super efficient gardeners – we just like doing it, mistakes and all!

We have major garden visits each year such as to Kew, Wisley, and Hampton Court. Anyone is welcome to come along even if you are not yet a member. Just ring Doug T: 01303 840276 for any of the advertised visits.

We have now established a four day annual tour in June to visit a series of gardens in various regions. This year it will be to Shropshire, next year it may be to Devon.

We have a small spring show in April and our main annual show in July which usually attracts many compliments from our judges. Entrants increase year on year. Classes range from the now famous “Potato in a Bucket” to “Art and Photography”. There are 100 different classes to chose from,  so there should be something for everyone – why not try your luck!

Another opportunity to meet us is at our open gardens weekend. This starts on Saturday 19 June this year and is in aid of the National Gardens Scheme; the next day Sunday 20 June is in aid of local charities. Look us up in the Yellow NGS book. Ploughman’s lunches will be available at the Kings Arms in the Square for just £5, as well as teas in the Old Vicarage.
